The fourth generation Range Rover (codename L405) was launched in 2012 and continues the Range Rover tradition of blending on-road luxury with gritty off-road perfomance. The engine choices consist of a 3.0L V6 and 5.0L V8 petrol engine or 3.0L V6 and 4.4L V8 diesel engine. The V8 petrol engine is supercharged while the V6 and V8 diesel engines are turbocharged mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
The all-new Range Rover comes in an all-aluminium monocoque body structure making it 420kg lighter than its predecessor. It features an improved Terrain Response System which analyses driving conditions and optimises the vehicle's settings instantly reconfiguring transmission, suspension and traction settings to enhance driveability in practically any conditions.
The new Range Rover features an extensive list of hi-tech active safety kits including driver and passenger airbags plus rear airbags to protect rear seat passengers and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) which has been shown in studies to significantly reduce accidents. DSC detects loss of steering control and automatically applies the brakes to counter the effects of oversteer and understeer.
Adaptive damping and air suspension come as standard features and provide for a comfortable and balanced ride. This majestic 4x4 will definitely continue to hold its own among the world's top luxury SUVs even as Land Rover plan a new hybrid Range Rover that will arrive on the scene in 2015.
