XK8 / XKR - X100 (1996 - 2005) Engine Rattling on Start‐Up

Some Jaguar owners notice a rattling sound when starting the engine on certain XK8 and XJ8 models.

One known cause is wear or vibration in the secondary timing chain tensioners. Jaguar introduced updated tensioners to resolve this issue, so fitting modified parts to both cylinder banks can help eliminate the noise. However, this work should only be performed by a qualified technician, as it involves precision engineering and specialist tools.
